I bought these after reading the good reviews, when I received them I charged them and put them in my Canon Powershot S5. They seemed to work. A few days later I took my camera out to take photos and when I turned on the camera, it flashed the message "change the batteries". Recharged them fully at home. Put them in - "Change the batteries".

These were defective and are useless to me.

I am using these batteries (now they come at 900mAh) for my baby monitor - it takes 3 AAAs.

The monitor is on up to six hours a day and a set of batteries lasts about a week.
People say that in digital cameras Ni-Mh last longer than regular alkalines, but this was not the case for me. A set of Duracell alkalines lasted a little longer than these and a set of ultra batteries lasted about 10 days. I guess that this is because the monitor is a low-drain device and batteries seem to behave differently when used in a low-drain or a high-drain device like flash or digital camera.

Anyway, rechargable are always a better choice, I am starting to save money already.

Customer Review: Disappointment
This deck is larger and feels much less solid than the deck it replaces, the GV-D1000. Worse, Sony removed the ability to use a hard wire to start and stop the deck. One of the best things about the GV-D1000 was its LANC capability. All in all, this deck feels flimsy and for me it is virtually worthless. In a studio environment its probably OK. But for serious field work, nadda.

I have a large collection of DV and HD DV tapes and wanted a way to play them on my home entertainment system without hooking up my camera. The Sony Video Walkman is just the ticket. I hooked it up using a DVI cable and can play my HD DV tape in high definition on my TV with amazing results. I also have used it to edit my tapes with good success. It is very portable and compact. One great feature is the ability of extracting photos from your videos. This is a very functional and well engineered device. If you are a serious video photographer and use a DV camera, this device is well worth the investment.

Customer Review: Very Slick Phone with a nice Camera
I've been using this phone for about a month now on T-Mobile (upgraded from a RAZR) without any issues. Just stick the SIM card in and you're good to go. When I shopped around for a phone, I had a few requirements: candy-bar body, good camera, and mostly no hassle features for everything else. I don't text message very much, nor do I use my phone as an MP3 player.

Firstly, the phone's look and feel are superb. It feels solid in the hand and unnoticeable in the pocket. As mentioned in the specs, it is one of the thinnest phones out there, and the construction feels solid, with metal back plate. The sliding mechanism that shields the camera's lens feel a bit wobbly and flimsy, but has so far not deteriorated with heavy use. The screen is a little small, but bright and crisp, with perfect visibility under direct sunlight. Directional pad, as well as call/cancel, and context buttons are all where you expect them to be and provide just the right amount of tactile feedback when pressed. Be aware that this is a SMALL phone, and you will have trouble hitting these small buttons if you have large fingers. That said, the keypad itself leaves much to be desired. The keys themselves are arrayed at an angle, making it somewhat confusing as to which button you're going to end up pressing. Your eyes tell you one thing, but your fingers tell you another. The only that helps seems to be either dialing slowly and carefully or simply trying to ignore your fingers telling you what button it's over.

The highlight of this phone is undoubtedly the 5.0 MP camera. The lens is at the top of the camera and is shielded by a sliding bar at the top that is honestly quite slick. When you pull it out to activate camera mode, a blue led strip lights up breifly and fades away. This serves no practical function, but is cool nonetheless. Once in camera mode, touch-sensitive buttons light up along either side of the screen. Taking pictures is best done turning the camera horizontally and using the dedicated camera trigger on the top (depress half way to focus and fully to snap). Since this is still a camera phone, shutter speed and shot-to-shot still leave much to be desired. However, it is FAR better than the iphone. The digital viewfinder is somewhat misleading as it will freeze the frame when you depress the trigger. However, this frame will be replaced by a preview of the actual picture taken (which will often be more clear). As a cyber-shot camera, it has the standard features such as face-detection, auto-focus, burst mode, etc. The flash is weak at times, but adequete (just be careful because it will drain your battery). Typical shot-to-shot time is long on this phone, but I find that most of the time, pictures are clear on the first shot. If you are really paranoid, the burst-mode will take 9 pictures in the span of a second, and you can pick which ones you want to keep or discard. Under low light conditions, pictures will turn out grainy unless you use flash. Pictures taken with this camera will not rival dedicated point-and-shoot digital cameras, but it is leaps and bounds better than other cameraphones I've used. As a point of reference, I enjoy taking pictures wherever I go, and this is the only device I bring. Considering how light it is, and the fact that it's a phone, it is honestly a perfect combo device for casual photographers. The phone is also capable of capturing 30 fps video, which I have not really had the opportunity to play around with. The initial samples I took turned out grainy, but maintained a consistent framerate.

The phone comes with standard sony-ericsson software loaded onto the ~160 MB of internal memory. The software is quite intuitive and mimics the media browsing experience on the PSP and Playstation. The PC suite includes the abiltiy to sync music, outlook contacts and calendars, and other files. While a bit bloated, the PC suite does its job. A few issues I should mention: the phone does not seem to be able to sync media files via bluetooth. This is really a shame because being able to sync pictures wirelessly is a very handy feature. The memory is expandable using sony's proprietary memory stick technology (the micro variant), which comes in sizes up to 8GB. The phone has a proprietary connection jack that is used to charge, sync, and adapt to regular headphones. The basic headphones included with the phone are low quality and become uncomfortable to wear after only a few minutes. If you intend to use this device as an MP3 player, definately have a better set of headphones handy. As I mentioned before, the keypad is terrible, making this phone unuseable for extended texting and/or browsing.

Call quality is great, and I notice no difference in reception from my RAZR. Speakerphone volume is loud and the device works seamlessly with my hands free bluetooth headset. The included PC Suite also provides settings for using the phone as an internet connection for your bluetooth enabled laptop.

Bottom line, this phone will turn heads with its sexy design. If are you looking for a very slick and stylish candy-bar phone with a great built-in camera, look no further. If you lean toward emphasizing picture quality from your phone, you may want to wait for the next generation of 8.0 MP phones such as the C905. Just do not expect to text or browse effectively.

Customer Review: Sony Quality Control Failures
The motor on this thing burned out at 120 days. As it is out of its 90 day warranty (all but useless anyway), I now have a $30 piece of junk. This player has been treated with TLC, no drops, no bangs, no thumps, no mistreatment of any kind.

If you purchase this player, please listen to your motor. If it is giving off audible noises (it should be almost dead silent) so that you need to have the player further away from you just so the noise doesn't degrade the music, you are hearing the motor burn out. If you are within the warranty period, I suggest you return it immediately. Don't wait for the end.

On start up, if the unit does any searching at all to find the first track, or gives you a "no disk" message, you are looking at a failing player. It should just kick to the first track and play.

The earphones are pretty useless for me. They are "in ear" and if they don't fit, you'll quickly be looking for a new set. That's a questionable investment given the low manufacturing quality of the player.

The track programming is very limited. It works only in numeric sequence, i. e. track 1, 2, 3, etc. You cannot program say, tracks 3, 1, 2. Also the programming act itself is clumsy and difficult to get right.

The player just feels flimsy and cheap. I don't have any better suggestions, but this thing is not a first choice. Unfortunately cd players seem to be dieing off under the mp3 deluge.

Customer Review: Great radio, poor quality control.
I bought my first SRF-59 a couple of months ago and I really enjoyed it for what it is - a lightweight, no-frills radio with great AM and decent FM reception. Unfortunately, my unit started to sound scratchy during AM tuning, which I attribute to the faulty variable capacitor. Since the radio is so cheap, there's no point of fixing it so I bought another one. The new radio has no problems with AM tuning but the beginning of FM band is useless as the one strong station (88.5 MHz - KQED) kills reception for all other stations until approximately 94 MHz - you keep tuning for a quarter of the dial and it's still KQED. My previous SRF-59 didn't have the same problem, so there's something else that was left out during quality control.

The screen protector and silicone skin work very well to protect my Walkman. I didn't think I would use the arm band but found it very helpful to use while vacuuming the house. I like the actual case, it fits perfectly and the little plastic "shield" for the screen seems helpful...but the actual belt clip seems a little confussing (at least for me) I still can't figure out how to attach it, and the sports band is small so if your going to use it I hope you have no arm fat cause well it's small...in overall though I am happy with the product and would recomend it...

This is a great companion on almost any outdoor outing. It's not typical of the old fashioned and poorly designed and ill-fitting "fanny packs". The material is soft and stretches like a jet-black scuba divers suit. It fits comfortably and stays snugly on top of my hips for walking and biking. When I was younger, I used one on trampolines or running with excellent results. This model has re-inforced stitching which I recommend. It holds 3 or 4 CD's plus a player under the velcro flap. I put keys or a garage remote and cell phone on the outside zippered pocket. It can also carry a small self-defense pepper spray or whatever you may be legally licensed to carry for protection while out in public. It's helped me keep true to my work-out promises.

I bought a great digital camera, but didn't realize that it consumed 4 AA batteries in a short amount of time. My camera would shut down if I had taken two dozen or so pictures. I bought this Sony charger in hopes to slow down my cameras appetite for AA's. After charging them up, I haven't been able to burn them out! I've gone so far at taking 100+ pictures with the flash on and still I could not burn them out. These little guys are a must if you have a digital camera that eats up batteries. The only draw back is that it take up to 4 hours to recharge.

the sound? AMAZING SOUND. nuances appear that I never knew existed. clear, clean and smooth. never any harshness. my music source is thru internet subscription, which is one of the reasons I selected this unit, at 192kb.

The battery package was badly sealed (like it never passed QC) and when I opened it and checked the batteries, the colors and fonts were slightly different from my other original Cybershot Batteries, which came with my camera. I compared them carefully and realized this are fake sony batteries, just an imitation. Must be some cheap-made-in-brazil ones with a printed sticker on them or something like that. This phone is such a great product. I had it for 3 years before it was broken and had to switch to another. This phone was a great music player, radio, and when used with my laptop gave me better internet access than most wireless internet access points used in most people's homes. Not only does this phone have everything including FM capability, but it is fun and easy to use. I often use the FM to listen to a morning show during work. Most of the employees can not even receive a signal in our concrete building, however this phone picks up my FM stations clearly. The phone has many features that make it fun to use and even play with. You can turn it sideways to play some games with the extra game buttons. I have had this phone for 5 years and wouldn't replace it unless I broke it. And even then, I would have to upgrade to the next Sony Ericsson phone in this model!

The Am and FM reception was very poor. I live in an area where I normally receive NYC, NJ, and Philadelphia radio stations. On my home radio I can receive dozens of stations but on this Sony Walkman I can receive only a handful and I cannot receive any of the 4 public radio stations.
I have not yet used the cassette player.

Since using this little gem for some time now, I'm quite happy with it. It's very basic (plays in one direction only) and has a wonderful digital radio. Actually, I'm not a fan of auto reverse since they can be troublesome. The cassette section is very impressive with steady speed and the fact it doesn't have Dolby, doesn't bother me at all. This walkman is small and very portable. The supplied earphones aren't bad but I use my own higher quality headphones which really makes a difference. I think cassette sounds better than MP3 anyway!

"XP64 condition". I cant find the timer to switch it off after
some minutes of choice... if youre going to sleep listening music
i guess it must play all your sleeping thru, i may be true,
after all, for me it's unthinkable not to work as mass storage on
XP64 and it happened. I'll correct my review if i find how to
program it to play for as long as i wish and not till it drains
itself. And again i say - GET a good phone and youll have GREAT
sound... better than i expected for mere 128k mp3's, but even
more incredible playing uncompressed WAV.

This is a good price for this unit. I like it except I had trouble tuning some FM stations in clearly. One really strong local station is the worst one. There is so much static and directional stuff I usually turn it off. I've reset it many times to no avail.

These rechargeable batteries met my expectations and then some. My digital camera, like most, eats up batteries like I eat potato chips. Customer Review: Don't buy this case
I am surprised at amazon for allowing this poor quality item to be sold by them. The case is a flimsy thin piece of rubber that is very hard to work with. It has no opening in it to put in the sony walkman. You have to stretch the case around the sony walkman. The belt clip is almost impossible to attach to the case. It just doesn't fit on properly. We tried trimming the rubber with a scissors and using a toothpick to stick the rubber into the belt clip, but it still kept popping out. They also charged approx. $7 shipping for this lightweight piece of junk

Customer Review: Technical problems and mediocre support
I bought the predecessor to this product. As a relatively handy technical person, I found the installation and setup of this device quite cumbersome and the support information lacking.

Installation: This requires a savvy technical person probably 2 hours to get installed and start using. There are a lot of finicky recognition problems with XP. Mine cycles through being recognized / not recognized, all the while beeping every minute when it changes status; all this happens too fast to get it up and running. It also starts spinning of its own accord even when not being used, which is a distracting sort of scratching noise (disconcerting to hear one's media sound like this).

Included software: The recording software is difficult to figure out, even when following the user help and documentation.

Online support: Their support website for this produce is quite bare compared to much of the rich support that is often offered by other companies.
Customer Review: Eh, don't get your hopes up
Although the idea of this product sounds great the one I bought had several issues. For some reason I get literally shocked by this device when Iuse headphones and walk down the street. It's like the static electricity finds it's way up the headphone cord from the cd player and into my ears. I also had issues with the battery life, especially in the winter with the cold weather. Eventually I couldn't even use the cd player because it would't play. I could hear beeps for volume changes and track changes but nothing else. The burner still works though but otherwise it is useless.

Customer Review: Good but Not Great: Key Features Missing
I bought this sony player to replace a cowon that I loved but that went out of production.

Hardware:
The overall quality of the construction seems pretty good. The major flaw is that the screen is plastic and scratches really easily. I don't get what Sony is thinking here, either use a harder plastic, put a scratch resistant coating or just use glass (probably the best option in terms of durability and clarity). My player arrived a day before the screen protector i ordered. Putting the player in a clean and empty fleece pocket for one day somehow managed to scratch the screen. I mean really. wtf?

Some of Sony's similar (but smaller!) players manage to fit a radio in as well. Why not on the larger models?

Software:
The software is basically fine in terms of usability. It has a really straightforward navigation much like many cellphone. there's a little button with up-down-left-right-center actions. You push it around in a very intuitive way.

Software.
One of the main reason I bought this player was that it mounts as a usb mass storage device and you can drag and drop files. I can verify that it works out of the box on linux (mounting works fine, for some reason automounting doesn't work, but you can manually mount using pmount). Amarok syncng of course works since it's just UMS.

The screen is bright and looks great with videos - one of the other reasons i chose this player.

That said - there are some serious features missing. I can only hope that Sony decides to add these with a firmware update (please!).

Podcast Support - There is no ability to keep your podcasts separate from your music. Usually i want to listen to music or podcasts/audiobooks not both at once - but on this player all podcasts/audiobooks are just mixed in with the music. This is very frustrating.

File Management - There is no way to delete or manage files from the player interface in any way. It's clear that the wrong choices were made for the "options" menu when you're in the file browser. This popup menu should contain "delete", "add to playlist", "queue" menu items.

You can choose to listen to music by album, artist, album and year. For some reason you can't choose a folder (+subfolders) as a play boundary - but you can browse folder and play individual leaf node folders. If you could just select a folder and say "play this and all subfolders" it would solve the podcasts getting mixed in problem (you could have "music", "podcast" and "audiobooks" folders - keeping everything separate).

Shuffle. Sony makes a big deal about the "shuffle by year" option which is fine i guess. but why not shuffle by tag and you choose the tag? this would be much more flexible and user friendly.

There is no way to choose say two genres and listen to those, or several artists etc. It's clear to me that (again) the options menu for folder view should have "add folder to playlist", "queue folder", "delete folder" options. The only thing that it has now is a "now playing" popup which is not that useful (but could be kept in the longer options).

Related to the lack of file management on the player is that you also can't manage playlists on the player. You have to do everything with a computer. This is very inconvenient if one is traveling and wants to listen to some subset of tracks on the player that doesn't break into the predifined categories (artist, album, genre etc.). There is just no way to listen to two different albums by different artists for example. argh.

Sometimes i wonder who the usability engineers over at sony are.
Customer Review: problem with volumn
Purchased this player for my husband and after a couple of months the volumn would not go up or down. Called Sony and spoke with someone with very poor English. We tried what he suggested but volumn would not work. He said we had to send it to Sony in Texas for repair. The cost of repair would be $77.00. I can get the same thing on ebay new for less. Very disappointed in this product and Sony.

I've had several CD walkmen, most recently a Sony, which lasted years and worked much better and longer than other brands. Imagine my surprise when I found this Sony CD walkman which also has AM/FM radio - and it's cheaper than my last CD-only Sony! I mostly listen to books on CD with it, but occasionally do use the radio. The reception is good, the sound quality is good for my purposes, and I'm even doing well with the over-the-ear earphones. I'm so pleased. Great purchase!

Hello, this kind of batteries are amazing and all others from sony, don't you dare to buy this specific one, because I have alredy ordered because I wanted the slide case for some others rechargable ones I have, ande they send me the exactly same batteries, but without the slide case, There is a mismatch in the picture and the name, that's what they told me when I claimed, and amazon suggest me to return the item (wich I did), but they did not fix it at the web site... So if you are looking for the batteries its OK, buy it, but if you want to have also the slide case, don't buy it because they wont send it.

So I emailed the Sony customer service and got this reply: "I understand that you want to know if your Sony Walkman receives digital TV signals. As your Walkman has analog tuner, it can not receive digital signals after the transmission changes to digital." I am quite disappointed.

So, if you are thinking of buying this radio so you can listen to TV broadcasts, you need to know it will not work for that after the transmissions go digital early in 2009. It is still a nice little radio to take to the gym or on walks, but there are many nice little radios and some MP3 players also receive FM channels. I hope Sony or another company comes out with a product that will receive the digital TV transmissions.

For the price we paid for this product, the sound quality is fair for such small speakers, though I am only using it at my desk at work and I can't have loud volume anyway. Even when using the speakers and everything's plugged in, you still end up going through a lot of batteries for the CD player itself, or you have to use long-lasting lithium batteries because the CD player only holds one AA battery. Mostly this product is just fine.

Great sound, and nice feature in that you can detach it from its external speakers and use it as a conventional CD "walkman." The controls aren't that intuitive, however, and the instructions are somewhat lacking -- it took me quite a while just to figure out how to turn the thing off!

This CD player starts from where the user hits stop, so it's perfect for listening to audio books without burning through batteries on pause. I purchased it for my mostly blind mother, who can use the controls and appreciates not starting over on every disc. She doesn't use the included ear buds and neither would I, but this machine is a great improvement over the cheapies we bought before.

Customer Review: Great Little MP3 Player
I have owned this little player for a week and so far am quite happy with it. I wanted a cheap (under $50) player that would allow me to carry tunes from computer to computer and would be good for running. This stylish gadget fits the bill. Unlike previous releases from Sony, you don't have to use their software (SonicStage) to use it. This is completely drag and drop; managing your music is as easy as managing files and folders. I use it with Windows Media Player and have had no problems. On feature I love is the quick charge, which will give you 90 minutes of play time for a three minute charge (I actually got over two hours from a three minute charge). It is also nice that it plugs right into your USB port with no need for a cord; that is true portability.

The one complaint (if you could call it that) I had is with the headphones. As with most earbuds that come with players these were subpar and bulky, they hurt my ears. I fixed that problem by investing in some Sony Mdr-Ex32Lp Earbuds Headphones. And now, I am perfectly happy with my set-up.

Customer Review: Can't go wrong for the price.
It's true that the name listed for this item -- "Clip-On Crystal Case..." -- is misleading, because in this case "clip on" means that the two pieces of clear plastic with rubber buttons "clip" together when you put the MP3-Video player between them, and it does not mean "clips on to your belt, etc."

Aside from that, if you want a clear plastic case to protect your player from scratches (but not falls), and you don't want to buy the Sony brand clear case for $26 and change (as it is currently listed on Amazon), you can't go wrong for the current price of $3.11 for this clear plastic case.

The rubber buttons work just fine for me, and I have big hands. I have to use my fingernail, however, to work the volume control button through the rubber, but it's not so difficult that it detracts from the case.

I got this case instead of a screen protector film for my Sony NWZ-A818, because I wanted a bit more protection than such films give, such as protection around the buttons. Drop the player into a sink full of water with the plastic case on it, and the case is not going to protect it. But if I set the unit on the kitchen counter or bathroom counter when using the sink and water splashes, it will protect the unit in most cases.

I like the way the player looks and feels without the case, but unfortunately it's kind of delicate and I tend to be an elephant-in-a-china-shop kind of guy (e.g., I took great care not to put my fingers on the player's window but I managed to grime it up anyway), so for $3.11 plus the $2.98 shipping I paid (for fast shipping from Eforcity), the clear plastic "clip on" case is ideal.

This is a great little item. Don't know how much it will protect my Walkman 816 in an accidental fall, but honestly, for $4 you CANNOT go wrong! If nothing else, it keeps dust, etc. off it and protects it in your briefcase, backpack, etc. during travel. And it looks like my big fingerprints on the screen won't be an issue anymore either. Shipping was cheap and super quick. $4 to protect a $128 piece of electronics? This is an easy decision... Get it!

Customer Review: Clear case of a nicely designed product
I wanted a reasonably-priced case that would provide some measure of shock protection as well as protection for the Walkman's case and screen while not hindering the screen's visibility. This polycarbonate case cover scores well in all those parameters.

The case fits my NWZ-A728 Walkman perfectly, with no rattle at any time. The case comes in two pieces - the front and back covers - which securely and audibly snap together at four points.

[All the following case descriptions are based on looking at the front of the case on the mp3 player with the player positioned so that the screen is above the control buttons.] The right and bottom edges of the case have cutouts allowing easy access to the various controls and ports in those locations. There is a rectangular cutout below the screen that allows ready access to the three buttons on the front of the unit. Even the little lanyard anchor loop is easy to get to on the player's right side.

The only control point on the player that is blocked by the case is the reset button, and that may be a good thing. No one can casually reset the player - first the case would have to be removed and then a very small-diameter probe would need to be inserted into the port - not my idea of an accidental reset.

The polycarbonate over the screen is completely colorless and transparent and seems somewhat thinner that the rest of the case - undoubtedly so as to not interfere with viewing the screen.

My only complaint is that the lower front buttons are fully exposed to particulate dirt via the substantial cutout provided. This is probably a relatively minor concern when compared to al the positive design features and the quality of fit and design tolerances.
Customer Review: Do not buy!!
This is an absulte waste of money. I work out a lot and run a lot. I need a belt clip for my Sony NWZ-A728. I found this one cheeper than the one Sony makes. When I got it I could tell the belt clip was poorly made. It rotates freely and has a very bad connection to the plastic case. Needless to say I tried it out. After only the second run it broke! sony makes a belt clip for the A800 and A720 series. I bought it and love it. I do not belive Amazon sells it. You will need to look for a local SonyStyle store. Good luck!

Customer Review: Lightweight, but not as good as earlier Sony M80
I bought this to replace my earlier S2 Walkman. The previous one, model M80, was a bit heavier in weight and required two batteries (instead of one) but it had great radio reception and was easy to use. After four years I literally wore it out and was eager to get a new unit. The new M85V is lighter in weight -- which is nice -- but the radio reception isn't nearly as good, especially on FM stations with moderate to low signal strength. Major bummer since I live in a hilly area of California and radio reception is compromised by mountains, power lines, etc.

I would only recommend the M85 if you plan on listening to radio stations with high wattage and very strong signals.

I purchased this product for my family-in law who wanted to listen Chinese stations. First, I didn't consider this product because of price, instead I purchased a Coby manual tuner $9 radio, which only picked up some major FM stations, and I ended up returning to get a better one, which was this Sony Walkman. This works excellent, picked up all stations including minor ones, easy to find a station you like because of digital screen, not much extra noise compare to the others. I should have purchased this from beginning. Looks cute and light.

Customer Review: Best sounding MP3 player I've owned.
I've tried several different MP3 players, and this is the best one I've owned. The included headphones are also excellent. The A818 is simple to use, and well designed. The "Media Manager Software" that is included is OK, but it is much better if you spend the few dollars and register it. You can just drag and drop your files on the Walkman, and you're ready to go. Battery life is excellent. Screen resolution is very good, but small. The best part is the incredible sound. I highly recommend it.

Simply, the best audio/video player on the market. I had a Creative Zen device, an iPod, a Sansa, and finally settled on a Walkman.
Audio quality is excellent; videos even on the small screen look sharp; navigation buttons and controls are intuitive and easy to use. Compared to all other players, the Sony gadget has incredible battery life. This is very important for me, because I use it non-stop for several hours a day( mostly for listening to lectures/podcasts and audiobooks).
Another important advantage - the player doesn't lock you into a specific content management software, like iPod does. I've been able to hook it up to various computers and transfer files using MediaMonkey, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, iTunes, and whatever was available on my friends' computers. You can even use it without any special software! Just put your content into a folder, connect your Walkman to a USB port, and drag-and-drop your folder onto the device. This works especially well with podcasts and ad hoc music collections.

Too bad it took Sony several years to figure out design for a good media player. I am afraid the market has already settled on iPods and Sansas.

4 stars out 5 because the play-time counter doesn't go beyond 999 minutes.

Customer Review: A Dream of a Backup
When it arrived I was still a little nervous. I had corresponded by email with the tech suppt group several times. I asked questions about the ability of the unit to copy all my file extensions. I am using some old, off beat software, but they said it would.

There is a great feature that forces the unit to copy ALL of the files, and it worked perfectly. The inital copy takes a while but the succeeding backups just work on the changed files. It takes only minutes. I used to dread backing up on CD's - now I look forward to it.

Great battery life, and Sony has greatly improved the way their MP3's upload their music (no longer using the proprietary software they were using for the older walkman). The old system used to turn any music uploaded into Atrac format, that I really liked, but you couldn't turn it back into MP3 format.

Have had this now for about 5 months and it's great, really light weight, and easy to use. If you are planning on using the movies and video feature, don't get the 2GB, go for the larger memory. If you just want music, I think this is perfect. There is a case made by Bodyglove that works great as a case for the waste, and uses a magnet to open and close so it's great for use when running or riding the mountain bike.

I chose this Sony W. over a year ago because 1. there were no reports of erratic skipping when downloading music as with Zune & many other mp3 players. 2. I wanted to download books from the library (something I couldn't do with my proprietary ipod!), 3. I owned an ipod and was VERY dissatisfied with the battery life & warranty, 4. I wanted a radio. The Sony walkman does everything I wanted. The only thing I would choose differently was a light color option, which would make the button labels easier to read (new models offer different colors) --of yes, and I did replace the earphones immediately! Still works like a charm and holds it's charge for hours. Great little player, I recommend it.

I was a little leery of buying this product because it's made of neoprene. I wondered how sturdy it would be. Ultimately, it has worked out great. Easy to adjust, the stretchy-ness of the neoprene makes it comfortable to wear, and it's easy to load the player into it. I'm really pleased with it.

I have been listening to books on cassette or CD on portable listening devices and Tune Belt has been the answer for portability. My library has a wonderful collection of books on tape and I have many activities that keep me moving around the house, the yard or the neighborhood. I can't tell you how much easier it makes those mundane chores of life easier with a companion to divert the mind from the repetitive actions of life.
I tell my friends I am probably the "best read" person they know and it is all thanks to the Tune Belt. I put my cassette player, a couple of extra tapes and an extra set or rechargeable batteries in the pouch and I am off for a walk, a weeding session or a long boring drive. No my headphones are not noise suppressing, so I can hear what is going on around me. I chose the CD version because it holds those extra tapes and batteries. I found my portable CD player used batteries twice as fast as my cassette player, so I just made sure I was getting books on tape. This is the second Tune Belt I have owned. I literally wore the first one out. Hint- When carrying extra batteries be sure you have a rubber band to keep then together or you may spend some time looking for a missing battery in the grass.

Customer Review: Good but Not Great: Key Features Missing
I bought this sony player to replace a cowon that I loved but that went out of production.

Hardware:
The overall quality of the construction seems pretty good. The major flaw is that the screen is plastic and scratches really easily. I don't get what Sony is thinking here, either use a harder plastic, put a scratch resistant coating or just use glass (probably the best option in terms of durability and clarity). My player arrived a day before the screen protector i ordered. Putting the player in a clean and empty fleece pocket for one day somehow managed to scratch the screen. I mean really. wtf?

Some of Sony's similar (but smaller!) players manage to fit a radio in as well. Why not on the larger models?

Software:
The software is basically fine in terms of usability. It has a really straightforward navigation much like many cellphone. there's a little button with up-down-left-right-center actions. You push it around in a very intuitive way.

Software.
One of the main reason I bought this player was that it mounts as a usb mass storage device and you can drag and drop files. I can verify that it works out of the box on linux (mounting works fine, for some reason automounting doesn't work, but you can manually mount using pmount). Amarok syncng of course works since it's just UMS.

The screen is bright and looks great with videos - one of the other reasons i chose this player.

That said - there are some serious features missing. I can only hope that Sony decides to add these with a firmware update (please!).

Podcast Support - There is no ability to keep your podcasts separate from your music. Usually i want to listen to music or podcasts/audiobooks not both at once - but on this player all podcasts/audiobooks are just mixed in with the music. This is very frustrating.

File Management - There is no way to delete or manage files from the player interface in any way. It's clear that the wrong choices were made for the "options" menu when you're in the file browser. This popup menu should contain "delete", "add to playlist", "queue" menu items.

You can choose to listen to music by album, artist, album and year. For some reason you can't choose a folder (+subfolders) as a play boundary - but you can browse folder and play individual leaf node folders. If you could just select a folder and say "play this and all subfolders" it would solve the podcasts getting mixed in problem (you could have "music", "podcast" and "audiobooks" folders - keeping everything separate).

Shuffle. Sony makes a big deal about the "shuffle by year" option which is fine i guess. but why not shuffle by tag and you choose the tag? this would be much more flexible and user friendly.

There is no way to choose say two genres and listen to those, or several artists etc. It's clear to me that (again) the options menu for folder view should have "add folder to playlist", "queue folder", "delete folder" options. The only thing that it has now is a "now playing" popup which is not that useful (but could be kept in the longer options).

Related to the lack of file management on the player is that you also can't manage playlists on the player. You have to do everything with a computer. This is very inconvenient if one is traveling and wants to listen to some subset of tracks on the player that doesn't break into the predifined categories (artist, album, genre etc.). There is just no way to listen to two different albums by different artists for example. argh.

Sometimes i wonder who the usability engineers over at sony are.
Customer Review: problem with volumn
Purchased this player for my husband and after a couple of months the volumn would not go up or down. Called Sony and spoke with someone with very poor English. We tried what he suggested but volumn would not work. He said we had to send it to Sony in Texas for repair. The cost of repair would be $77.00. I can get the same thing on ebay new for less. Very disappointed in this product and Sony.

I found myself in need of a new mp3 player when my old ipod kept crashing my computer (Vista) so I went with the Sony. I am so much happier with this product than I was with the IPod. The software for uploading music is very user-friendly. I buy tunes from several sites now, most notably Rhapsody, and upload them in seconds from the music manager to the player (no need to create folders or playlists). The MP3 player is also very user-friendly, as was the IPod. And the sound is excellent. The noise cancelling headphones actually do as advertised, which I discovered on a long car trip with my arguing children. I was able to ignore them almost completely. Battery life is very good, but goes down considerably when using the noise cancelling feature. That's really my only knock.

Customer Review: Very helpful at the right price
I looked for several ways to carry my Walkman in my purse, but had difficulty finding something that would carry both the Walkman and earphones. This fit my solution perfectly. The only thing that I would recommend is to use a thin sleeve to cover your Walkman before putting it in this bag. The metal studs could scratch the screen very easily without additional protection.

...small sound: you sacrifice power and detail in exchange for looks and compactness.

You can get much better for about the same money with the M-Audio AV30 powered speakers (about a hundred bucks from Amazon) or for a little less with the M-Audio Studio Pro 3 (about eighty bucks from Amazon). They're slightly bigger and heavier yes, but not ENORMOUS, and your ears will thank you and thank you and thank you.

And btw folks: don't get fooled by the marketing hype or crooked salespeople---you do NOT need any kind of special "dock" to hook up your MP3 player to speakers or a stereo system: a five dollar converter y-cable (splits the headphone output on your MP3 into standard red-and-white RCA stereo cables) from Walmart or Radioshack will do just fine. You can do the exact same thing with any powered computer speakers, btw.

Although the SonyStyle website claimed that this item was compatible with the NWZ-A728, it wasn't.

The attachment that comes with the mp3 player doesn't fit in the dock. I even tried attaching the mp3 player to the dock without the attachment and it was too fat. I will be returning this system.

Bought this clip online because I go jogging and don't like things on my arm or in my pockets. I search several stores and could not find a clip for my Sony MP3.Sony puts out new products but don't supply alot of accesories unless you buy them directly from Sony. This clip fits perfectly, and it's not too bulky and doesn't take away from the MP3. I can use all my MP3 functions. The clip doesn't block the screen or buttons. This is the perfect gadget to clip your MP3 anywhere you need it. I love mine, I highly recommend this product. The service & delivery was quick.

I have had this for 2 years. I use it mainly to walk the dog at the park. To catch up on news or just plain good music. Also a necessity for ball games commentaries for baseball and football games. Customer Review: tough but unconfortable for long periods
Believe it or not it is becoming difficult to find headphones(without wires) that still offer AM Stations so if you want one better get one soon (most MP3 players now offer FM but no AM). I have used these headphones for five years with no issues except they are unconfortable if wearing for a long time. I have them on all day everyday and sometimes forget to bring them in at night from the gardening truck (super durable).

I wanted a tape recorder/player that was reasonably small, played regular tapes and could be plugged in or run by batteries. After researching and comparing recorders on line I decided on the Sony TCM-210DV Standard Cassette Voice Recorder. I am very pleased with my choice -the price seemed reasonable, the sound is good, records easily and I really enjoy the variable speed feature, which allows you to listen to tapes in a shorter amount of time. The limited amount of recording I have done with the recorder has been very satisfactory. The recorder is still playing on the original batteries and I have used it a lot, which is another plus. I have a feeling that tape player/recorders are becoming dinosaurs, I'm glad I found this in time!

Customer Review: Long Term, Not So Good
I've owned this player for at least four years. And, although I haven't used it for awhile --perhaps six months-- I didn't leave it plugged in and I don't use batteries. So when I plugged in in today, I fully expected it to run. It hadn't been dropped, drenched or otherwise abused, it had just been left hanging on the rail of my treadmill. And the thing won't work. It'll indicate a track for a disc, but then shut down. No sound, no anything. I was going to listen to some jazz while on the treadmill, but now I have to get a new cd player. Bummer.
Customer Review: Great CD walkman
I bought this CD player about 4 years ago or more. Got to college, gave it to my girlfriend who dumped me after one semester. Really regret it. I bought the newer version and I hate it. I'm buying the older version again. I had the one with the radio built in though, works excellent. I cannot make this CD player skip at all, I've tried. Very heavy duty, relatively water proof. Not concerned about jogging in the rain with it. It has a joystick where I would assume it is more vulnerable but no problems with mine. I'm a 21 year old college student who's buying it again. Even if you don't use the cd player it is a pretty cheap radio with pretty good reception that is comfortable to run or walk around with.

This is a good, protective cover by itself. I bought it with the belt clip thinking they could be used together - keep the player clean and protected from dust and scratches while also having a convenient way to carry it. They don't work together. I even went so far as to cut slots in the sides of the cover thinking they'd slide together easier - no way. It's too bad Sony couldn't think of a way to have a protective cover with a belt clip - doesn't seem to complicated to me and it would be very useful.

The case is good, except texting and access to the buttons gets to be a little awkward with the added width but you get used to it. The Accessories, car charger and travel charger don't fit with the case on but the original charger does. Funny. It's a good deal all in all.
